Book four in the Slater and Norman Mystery Series
When Diana Woods is found stabbed to death in her kitchen, DS Slater and DS Norman Norman are plunged into another major investigation. The finger of suspicion quickly points at estranged husband Ian, a bully who regularly abused his wife. But as Slater learns more, he begins to wonder if everything is as it seems.
When a new suspect appears on the scene, it seems that Slater’s instincts were right. But the evidence seems just a bit too convenient, and Slater and Norman have to face the possibility that their suspect is being framed – and they could be back to square one.
A fun mystery series
Not quite police procedural, and not quite cozy mystery, the Dave Slater Mystery Series is a series that has a sense of humour and doesn’t take itself too seriously. If that’s the sort of mystery you like, you need look no further.
The Wrong Man Slater and Norman Mystery Series Book 4 edition by PF Ford Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
4 and 1 / 2 starsThis is a very well written and plotted book like all of the Dave Slater books I have read thus far. The suspense is even, but the novel explodes at the end. It was brilliant!
DS Dave Slater and his partner, Norman are called to the scene of a stabbing death of a 40-something woman. They are getting intense pressure from their DCI to arrest the husband. But Slater and Norman don't have enough evidence.
They carefully interview witnesses and family members. Most witnesses believe the murdered woman was a saint. But as the interviews go on, they begin to get a different picture of the woman. Some one had plenty of reason to want to get rid of her. As time goes by and stories conflict, Slater and Norman begin to understand what happened.
This book is an easy read. It goes along nicely. The description bills it as a "cozy mystery." Perhaps that's correct. I am really looking forward to diving into book 5!!

The Wrong Man Slater and Norman Mystery Series Book 4 edition by PF Ford Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
This is the latest in a series which started as a spin off. The characters have matured nicely and the sense of place is well drawn. The plot is very traditional but very well done with only one body - no stupid serial killer and no contingent corpses either! all in all a well written story capable of engaging attention for hours! I look forward to the next one!
The basic plot moved along well, but in a plodding manner. It was an easy read and flowed relatively well, although the main protagonists D.S Slater and his buddy Norman, are only minimally interesting. The book had the feel of a quickly filled in outline. My primary criticism is that the dialogue between the detectives and detectives and witnesses or suspects was stilted and often juvenile.
More twists and turns than a drunken burro. I love the repartee between Dave and Norm. contrary to another reviewer, the characters in this series are extremely well characterized. I really this one.
It is not a bad book. The plot keeps twisting and turning and I did not see the ending coming. That is because I don't buy the motive. It runs contrary to the main thrust of the story. Then there are the mysterious conversations Norman has been having since book 3. When will we be given an explanation? Last but not least, book 3 ended with DS Slater being encouraged to apply for a promotion; nothing is said about that in book 4. So, not a bad book, but the author is losing steam.
Everybody had an opinion on who the murderer was and only one of them could be right, right? Dave and Norman are at their bickering, buddying best in this one. Like many of the books in this series, this one can be read as an enjoyable police procedural with well developed characters that we have come to know and like. However, there is an undercurrent in all of the books in this series that we see here of the profound nature of the relationships between men and women and the many different ways that these can develop and how they can go wrong. This was a great read.
This is book 4 and I'm even more hooked than before. The books in this series just get better and better!
The writing style is superlative, with just the right blend of seriousness and cheeky humour.
The investigative side is well developed and just enough clues are given to let you think you know who the baddies are, only to realise that you were not quite right.
I'm going to have to stop reading this books in such quick succession or I will have withdrawal symptoms once I have read them all.
This book is the fourth in the series, and I have read them all so far. This one is not quite as well done as the previous volumes. In this one the characters seem a bit more two-dimensional the neighbors too naive, several people too helpful, etc. In two different scenes the officers talk back, sharply, to their boss. I also found this in another British procedural I read recently; either the officers would have been fired (at the very least, reprimanded) or things work very differently in the UK than in the US. As always with Ford's book, this one is very well plotted. It was only toward the end that I began to suspect some of the people involved, and the identity of the murderer was a complete surprise.
