Through a quirk of fate a slave becomes a Confederate Cavalry officer and leads a daring band of men on a mission to save the Confederate Army from destruction after the battle of Gettysburg.
Escape From Gettysburg eBook Tom Croft
OK, first General Lee commanded the Army of Northern Virginia, not the Army of Virginia. Yes, it matters. Furthermore General Lee wouldn't have personally briefed a lowly cavalry captain on a screening mission, that would have more likely been done by one of General J.E.B. Stuart's staff officers. I am familiar with the concept of "suspension of reality", a necessary ingredient in a lot of fiction, but to expect your readers to believe that the entire Confederate Command Staff was incapable of detecting a mulatto in a gray uniform is just way too much. Has the writer ever even read a book about the Civil War? How about watched a movie? I'd suggest "Gettysburg" in view of the setting of this story. We are also supposed to believe that a half white slave, found with a hat belonging to a Confederate Captain would be mistaken for said Confederate Captain by not one but two southern surgeons? Really? Even considering burns from the explosion, are we to believe that all negro features (nose shape, dark skin and curly hair) were also burned away? A trauma that extensive would very likely be fatal today, (even if it happened in the parking lot of a Class 1 Trauma Center) in 1863 battlefield conditions it surely would have meant death. Therefore the burns could not have completely concealed the ersatz captain's racial identity, even if he was very "light skinned" A southern NCO acting as orderly/nurse would not have concealed his observations of negro features, especially one from a family so bigoted as his was later revealed to be. And where pray tell would clean bandages and burn salve in sufficient quantity in the supply strapped Confederate Army been found for twice daily bandage changes? Must have been delivered by Unicorn Xpress Drone Service, right? That is totally believable. NOT!! We are asked to believe that amnesia turned a slave, granted an educated one, but still a slave, into some kind of Civil War Rambo. who trained expert snipers with a couple of sentences? Really? Crack shots that couldn't tell their officer was mixed race. Yeah OK. And then the later life developments? I'm gonna stop now, (had to get my hip waders, BS is way too deep) but before I go I have two questions chief... what were you smoking when you wrote this, and can I please have some?Product details

Escape From Gettysburg eBook Tom Croft Reviews
This was an interesting premise for a book, but poorly executed. Some key points that would have made the story flow and be more believable were missing. There were a number of sections that were repetitive and seemed detached, observing the story rather than drawing the reader in. Finally the ending was rather anticlimactic
one gets to like all the characters in this book
be saddened but don't be surprised when the
War destroys some and elevates others.
the author spins a web that could happen,
may have happened, for real.
makes the complexity of the Southern cause part and parcel of the weaving.
I am surprised to be the first reviewer.
